Have you ever Googled yourself? Come on. Admit it.
In this interesting Google experiment, Alec Brownstein got a job at a top ad agency by relying on the fact that people do “Google” themselves.
He placed a personalized Google ad for 5 of the top advertising executives and got job interviews with 4 of them. And eventually ended up with a job offer from one of the interviews.
What are the lessons here?
Googling a person’s name is a very common practice. Your boss, business partner, employees, sales prospect or even your date has probably Googled you in the past or will do so in the future.
If you know this, it’s very important to take affirmative action to own the search results for your own name. This way, you will control the results of what they see.
Without taking affirmative action, the people Googling your name will end up finding other people with your name or worse finding nothing at all!
Online personal branding is a key strategy that cannot be ignored. If you want to get that job, make that sale, close that deal or just make a good impression, you need to dominate the search results for your name.
This is the reason why I created a powerful WordPress blog theme for personal branding and it comes with a personal SEO service to help individuals dominate search results for their name.
