Here’s the ad for the new HP Slate tablet. Do you think it can be an iPad killer? Nah, I don’t think so.

While the ad doesn’t give us a lot of info, there are a few things that can be observed.

  1. Its looks much thicker than the iPad. Not cool.
  2. Front and back camera. Cool.
  3. SD Card Slot. Cool.

But noticeably missing is…an app store.

For this reason alone, it will definitely lose out to the iPad. Most of the frenzy of news on iPad that I am seeing now is centered around new apps. Dr Zeus for kids, Marvel comics for “big” kids and so on. Definitely, the fact that developers will create uses for the device that the manufacturer will not think of is the key to success in this category of devices.

Also, the touch screen seems a little sluggish compared to the iPad and iPhone which has become the standard to beat.

Still, until more information becomes available its hard to say.

The project was killed? So HP officially acknowledged the less competitiveness of the product right?
