My WordPress Ping List
Posted on 29. Dec, 2009 by Brian Wong in Blogging
One of the benefits of having a WordPress blog is that it can automatically notify blog directories every time your blog is updated.
To customize the settings of which blog directories get notified whenever you publish a new post, go to your WordPress Dashboard and click on “Settings”.
Then click on “Writing” and scroll towards the bottom where it says “Update Services”.

In the text field provided, you can enter all the various links to directories that you wish to notify whenever you update your blog.
Here’s the current list of services I update. You can copy and paste this list into your settings if you wish.

with pingomatic, you can remove other ping URL to avoid duplicated pings.

Hey Brian – Thanks for sharing your list! If you schedule your posts for future publishing, could be a good idea to use a plugin like MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer or similar to manage your pings. WP by default pings when you schedule the post rather than when it is actually published, and also when you update an already published post.

Hi Robert – thanks for the big list but I read somewhere that duplicate pings can indicate spamming activity and therefore detrimental. Do you know if there's any truth in that?

Thanks for the tip. I did not know that. I do schedule most of my post though but its good to know.

Does that mean you manually submit to Pingomatic every time you post? I was hoping for a more “automated” solution. Am lazy when it comes to these things! haha

not manual.. when you ping Pingomatic, it will automatically ping
other Ping sites.. therefore, you don't need to do another ping if the
ping site already included in Pingomatic.

The list is too big for me and chances r there that you end up pinging one site many times n getting banned b’coz multi pinger sites like pingomatic.com automatically ping many other sites in the list.

Thanks for the list. FYI I've read that technorati doesn't accept pings anymore.

Hi Azad. Thanks for the tips. I tried your advice and installed both plugins.
However, when I added your ping list – the Ping List Checker plugin reported many duplicate pings. Did you check that your large list does not have duplicates?

Thanks Brian for posting this list. Some of the directories that you listed I didn’t not have on ping list. So now I can finally update them with the additional ones.
