In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to create a pre-written “Retweet” link or button. What this means is that with a click of a button, the browser will go to your Twitter account and create a new Tweet with your pre-written message in it.

Now, I’m having a hard time explaining this in words so just go ahead and click on the link below (it will open your Twitter account in a new window):

Get the idea?

There are a lot of applications for this technique. You can add it to a blog post or a webpage. Then send a Tweet out to your followers. This message could be forwarded really quickly all throughout the Twitterverse! Try it and see.

So how do you do this for your own blog or website?

Here Are The Steps:

Step 1:
Go to Twitter and type the message that you want “Retweeted”. Make sure that it’s within the 140 character limit. In the example above, the ReTweet message is this:

Step 2:
Go http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/topics/urlencoding.htm and convert the text into a “URL-Safe” encoding format.

step2 1 How to Create Pre Written ReTweets for Twitter

Basically, the tool converts this:

To this:

Step 3:
Add this link to the beginning of your message:

http://twitter.com/home?status=

In the example above, the URL would be:

Now all you need to do is create a hyperlink with that URL. You could leave it as a text link or use an image like what I did in the example above.

I know this is probably easier than I think it is, but for the moment, I don’t get it. Will revisit in the am after sleep.

Do you know of a way to enhance the URL so that when the button is clicked the message is preloaded into the Status box and then the update button is AUTOMATICALLY pressed?

I’m hoping that there is some type of opreator like “?Update=POST” or something like that which you can tack in there to get it to auto-post the message.

The introduction of hashtags (#) into your post will prevent this code from working, which all you have to do is remove the hashtags and you are good to go!

Any idea how I can add a #(hash) tag while creating the retweet link using Step 1. When I create one using the encoder and display it on a page, everything works well except that the hash tags are never shown!

Sure. Try this:
1. Go to http://tweetsmarter.com/NEWindex.htm
2. Type your message including the “#” tag
3. Click on the “Add Retweet Link”
4. Then just copy the shortened url as your link
5. Use the shortened link anywhere on your blog or website

Very impressive.

It’s a long shot, but I don’t suppose you know of a way to get this to use Twitter’s native retweet format (i.e. where the retweet icon is displayed in the Twitter feed)?
