FireFox Plugin for Displaying Page Rank

This is and essential SEO tool for FireFox that can help you evaluate the popularity of any web page you visit. It will display the PageRank (higher the number the better), Alexa Rank and Compete Rank (the lower the number the better).

If you right click over each of these items, you can view the exact details of the traffic for these sites like incoming links, site visitors and related sites.

So if you are trying to analyze website traffic, this is an awesome tool. Get this and many other free add ons here:

If you are still not using Firefox as your browser, I do recommend it. It is my preferred browser because of the many free addon features that make it much more than just a web browser.

“Brian Wong” Back on #1 in Google’s Index Database

This is an update on a previous post. On May 3rd, I made a post to express my shock and horror to realize that BrianWong.com was totally removed from the Google Search Index. Meaning my site was totally non-existent in Google’s eyes! Here’s a link to the post:

I listed the mistakes I made that got me de-listed and I also outlined a 5-Point plan to get my site back into Google’s good graces. So I’m pleased to report in this post that my site has been re-indexed by Google and I am back to ranking no.1 for the keywords - “Brian Wong”! Here’s the screen shot for my search for “Brian Wong”. Yay!

That’s means the actions I took paid dividends in just under 2 weeks. Please revisit the previous post above to see what I did to regain the top spot on Google for my name if you are keen to improve your search ranking. It worked.
Here’s a summary of what improves your search ranking:

  1. Frequency of keywords in your site - especially in anchor text. (I used “brian wong in the footer of each page as an anchor text)
  2. I admit that I have an advantage because the domain name itself contains the keywords “Brian Wong”
  3. In bound links makes a big difference too. I comment a lot on forums and other blogs with links back to my site.
  4. Submitting a site-map to Google helps too
  5. I use meta tags on each page and ensure my permalinks contain keywords too

Ok, that’s it for this week cos I just got back from a holiday in Phuket and am a little burnt from playing with my son in the pool for 2 hours everyday!!! :)

I Got Google Slammed for Not Paying Attention to SEO!

Google is almighty and powerful in the Internet world! That’s what I have come to terms with in my Internet marketing experience. The reason for this introduction is that I just realized that my Google page rank and search engine ranking for this blog dropped significantly after I changed over from a RapidWeaver blog to a self-hosted Wordpress blog.

Now at first I thought, its because the search engines needed to re-index my pages and it would return to its original ranking. However, I now realize that is not the case. I spent the last month reading all about SEO for my marketing sites and when I re-looked at my new Wordpress blog, I realized that I was just very careless in not optimizing my site.

Here are some of my SEO mistakes that I hope you benefit from:

  1. My old blog had the words “Copyright © Brian Wong” on the footer of EVERY page. The keywords “Brian Wong” used to appear on every page which is very important if I wanted to be ranked for these keywords on Google. My new blog did not. (now fixed).
