I don't think its a device you "need". Its a new device that you use to read, surf the web and enjoy your media with. It adds value if it suits your lifestyle. If you don't think you need it, don't get it. :)

So why exactly would I need this device? If you get the version that is reviewed, (The 64 Gig one) its over 800 bucks. You could buy a very good laptop for that, and one that has things like Flash Player and a camera.

Hi Jay.

Thanks for contributing to the discussion. Let's agree to disagree for now and wait until the iPad comes to market to see what the results are shall we? We should know the results in 2 to 3 months time :)

Cheers,
Brian

Ok, well, lets see where to start. I see 3 steps in a product going to a new market. But there's a lot of other scenarios as well that could play out also. Step 2) People realize the drvice isnt what they though and it fails miserably. ( Newton, New Coke, Pepsi Clear, all gone before you even knew they were there ) I think for you are making a huge assumption in it succeeding. Selling people something they have lived without for a long time is sometimes difficult ( and sometimes not, Netbook anyone?>>) as you can tell, your opinions and mine differ. I would like to point out my counter for your 5 reasons.

1) $599 price point. Well, in case you havent noticed, there are some devices that are 2 times as capable and half the price. ( got my netbook for less than 300 dollars)

2) You mention in reason 2 how handy it has been to have your Iphon available to do mobile browsing. I agree, thats an awesome feature to have in something that fits in your pocket. Very convenient and portable. Very portable. Now, try shoving the Ipad into your back pocket and carrying it everywhere.

3) Is an opinion, you have yours I have mine

4) "I can use all the apps I had purchased for my iPod Touch on the iPad"........ assuming you dont mind the image upscaled and horrible looking or paying for an "upgrade". Im sure some devs will give away the software to make the Iphone apps work, but I dont think many will be willing to work for free.

5) You have conclusive nonbiased third party data to confirm that or you just gonna "take Apples word" for it ??

6) Something everyone seems to be missing is the horrible ergonomics of this device. Well, everyone but Apple, who will be willing to sell you a nice stand for it so you dont cramp your neck or hand all to heck.

Hi Roger, glad you agree. I can't wait to get one. Thanks for the edit. Lot's of typos - yikes! Will remember to spell check next time. :)

Brian, you nailed it. The ipad is going to be a huge success. Apple and Google will emerge as the new leaders in the technology paradigm.
(BTW, you misspelled "ridicule".)
Best wishes
