About Brian Wong

Ok, you clicked on this link so I assume you do want to know more about me. Instead of the short cursory introductions on blogs, I’m going to give you the full yet concise version if that makes any sense.

I was born in Malaysia and went through my formative years in Sydney, Australia. I graduated from the University of New South Wales with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce. After spending 5 years in university, I landed my first job at investment bank as a trainee. My income then was a whopping RM1,700 (US$ 530) per month. So you see, I hold strongly to the belief that a formal education is not the best way to get rich. On this subject, I agree wholeheartedly with Robert Kiyosaki. He even has a book entitled “If you want to be Rich and Happy, don’t go to school?“.

My first break came when I started investing in stocks with my savings in 1996. For 5 years, my job involved analyzing companies for my boss. My job is to identify companies that are worth investing in and with a view to take them public. I quickly got a good feel of what makes good companies.

In 1999, I was hired by another investment bank to identify and invest in “dot com” companies. Remember this era? One of the start-up companies I recommended to my boss was called “Catcha.com”. It’s basically the South East Asia version of Yahoo. To cut a long story short, my boss rejected the valuation of the company and the founder made me an offer I could not refuse to join them as the Chief Operating Officer with equity interest. Our little start-up company raised over $5 million and grew to a 150-staff behemoth with offices in 5 countries. We took the company public within the next 6 months but alas, we became a casualty of the big dot com crash in 2000. All this was when I was 28 years old.

For the next 2 years, I managed to help steer our company through the credit crunch to get to a financially stable position. It was a hard time for me. After such rapid growth, we had to shrink and diversify our income sources. I’m pleased to say we did the best we could and the company still exists today.

In 2002 after spending 3 years at Catcha.com Ltd, I decided to take a sabbatical and started traveling to spa resorts in Australia and Europe to regain my sanity. The turning point in my life occurred in that year when I attended a course by Tony Robbins called “Date with Destiny”. If there was only one course I could recommend on this planet, I would tell you to go for this one. It will change you life.

This time for myself turned out to be the best decision of my life. Having a year off without the concerns and stress of a job, allowed me to really LEARN about life and what it means to be happy. By “unplugging” myself from the 14-hour work day grind – I got a real birds-eye-view of my life and what I want to do.

So in 2003, I founded my own wellness company – Pure Health. We specialize in maximizing health through detoxification and proper nutrition. This was a radical change from my corporate background. Because its something I believe it so passionately, Pure Health became an awesome success with over 2,000 clients undergoing our wellness programs within the first few years.

At this time, I attended a seminar by Robert Kiyosaki and he taught me the value of leverage and passive income. Can you believe that it took me 30 years of my life to realize what I now know as the no.1 secret to financial freedom?? From this epiphany, I started my quest to pursue and establish passive income sources in my life.

I joined a network marketing company called Nu Skin and within 3 years I became a Diamond Executive Leader with the company. Network marketing has been a powerful training course for me. In hindsight, I would gladly exchange my 5 years in university for the lessons I learned from building my network marketing organization. If you are not involved with network marketing – just do it. But without digressing, let me continue on.

In 2006, I attended Jay Abraham’s Billion Dollar Marketing Weekend course. It was a phenomenal experience and my business income quickly doubled within the first 3 months of implementing his ideas. More importantly, I attended he World Internet Summit in Malaysia which totally blew me away. Although I had been involved in the Internet back in 1999, the industry has radically advanced in just a few short years – and it continues to evolve offering unbelievable opportunities for anyone who recognizes its potential.

So, while managing my wellness business, my network marketing organization, my property and stock investments, I decided to venture into Internet Marketing in 2006. I purchased nearly every course, ebook, software and seminar program I could get my hands on. My learning curve was very steep as I had no choice, I had to catch up to the wave that only really began in 2002 after the dust from the dot com crash had settled.

In 2007, I met two men who would change my world yet again. Bob Proctor and Gerry Robert from Life Success Productions. I had come to know of their plans to launch a phenomenal home-study course based on the hit-movie “the Secret”. I traveled half way around the world to meet with them and I became an affiliate manager for Bob and Gerry. We launched the SGR Program in 2007. Using the Internet Marketing strategies that I devised, my team and I generated over $2 million in sales within the first month. This program continues to generate a powerful residual income stream for me each month.

So to recap, after the last 10 years of my working career, I generated 99.9% of my wealth in the last 2 years by pursuing highly leveraged residual based businesses and investments. Today, the income I get from my property investments, stocks investments, my network marketing organization and my business assets (all passive sources) far exceed the amounts I could ever spend in any given month.

Ok so why the long story. I’m not here to brag and hopefully not bore you. There are a few key messages for you here:

  1. Attend seminars and buy knowledge. The best information to make you rich is not found in the formal institutions but rather from those who have already accomplished what you desire. And, it’s worth paying for.
  2. Make it your main goal to start your own business even if you do not have a lot of capital to begin with. There are abundant opportunities online and through leveraged businesses like network marketing that allow you to get started with little investment. Each step will help you learn and grow.
  3. Pursue as many high-leverage passive income sources as possible. Bob Proctor calls them “MSIs” or Multiple Sources of Income. Remember, this is the no. 1 ‘secret’ to financial freedom I can tell you.

Make sure above all, that you really truly enjoy the journey. In between all of the above, I found my soul mate and started a family. My greatest joy in life is to spend time with my wife and son.

Now the purpose of this blog is for me to interact and share my knowledge and experience with like-minded individuals especially if you are looking for a breakthrough that leads to your financial freedom. If you are still reading this, chance are, it’s you. So if you like what you see so far, remember to subscribe to my blog, leave a comment and come back often. I would love to here from you.

Peace and blessings,

***UPDATES: 14 October 2011***

The story above  was written in Feb 2008. I did not want to re-write it but its in much need of an update. I plan to just post updates here from time to time.

Since 2007, I have been consistently learning and reviewing Bob Proctor’s teachings and consciously practicing the Law of Attraction and the other “forgotten laws” over this time. So much has happened that I have trouble finding where to begin.

For starters, I have been blessed with the arrival of my second son, Tristan in November 2008. My two boys are the most awesome gifts God has given to me to date. What a joy and honor to raise these kids and see them develop with such joy. I think I could write a whole book on this awesome subject! (Maybe I will!)

I have also started several niche blog sites over this time which generate a small but consistent and growing passive income stream. You can read about detailed examples of how I create these niche blogs here. I am thoroughly convinced that anyone who really wants to get out of the daily 9-to-5 grind can replace their working income online. There are just so many options that work well.

In 2009, I launched an info product site on Clickbank. Although I would not call that a roaring success, it was a profitable venture and it added very valuable experience to my online portfolio. As of this writing, I am now in the process of completing a sale of that website.

In late 2010, I co-founded a daily deal site called DealMates. Within a few short months, and with lots of hard work, we reached almost 100,000 active members. We have since raised first round funding from Intel Capital and the site today is one of the leading daily deal sites in this region.

What’s keeping me busy these days? I have quite a few online projects under development. I guess its pre-mature to talk about them here but subscribe to this blog or follow me on Twitter or Facebook to keep abreast of the news when these projects are ready to see the light of day. :)

I continue to work from home and spend quality time with my kids which are currently 4 years and 2 years old respectively. I am absolutely loving living a congruent life consistent with my values, beliefs and at my own time.

Thanks for following my blog and I hope you continue to follow your dreams and live life on your terms. You can do it. As the late Steve Jobs says “Don’t settle!” until you find your life mission.

    Brian,

I didn’t know your whole story, thanks for sharing and thanks for the words of encouragement for people to continue their Networking pursuits and MSI’s. You’re absolutely right…. I’ve learned more in the past year and a half since I started my Network Marketing biz, then I could have if I had opted out and taken the ‘safe’ route! Thanks Brian! –Krista from Canada!

    Hey Brian,

Very inspiration i must say. Your story and success principles are so true! I myself am in an affiliate marketing/network marketing business and how true it is to become free by being a business owner and harnessing the trends happening through the internet. If only more people like you and i had the drive and ambition to create something like this for themselves, lives would be changed!

    Hi Brian,

Thank you for sharing this. As a young student finishing high school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. So I followed the normal path of all ‘good’ children and did a law degree. This has now taken up 5 solid years of my life – I am, in my final year taking steps to start a tutoring company. It has had big hiccups thus far, but we run motivational speeches for school children in aus that have been hugely successful. So, we just keep taking the nxt steps…and your story and incredible generosity in advice giving has inspired me to keep aiming high, especially when everyone around me is still very “traditional” in their income-earning approach.

I read your blog posts regularly – they’re a wonderful resource for us :)

    Thank you again.

    Renee.

    Hello Brian,

I’ve never imagined tapping into my potential and the potential out there to make money. I’m excited about the amout of opportunity out there.
I was wondering if you’d made an in depth video tutoral for The Science of Getting Rich affiliate program as you did for 11 Forgotten Secrets affiliate program.
If so, where can I find it. I’ve been trying to start myself up with the SGR affiliate program with the 11 forgotten. I’m a first timer.

Hi Brian, I’m Roger Hor also from Malaysia. I’ll be 51 in a few months time. I just learn computer & took an expensive internet marketing course early this year. It took me about 1/2 a year subsequently to set up a website http://www.2airpurifier.com & through the Law of Attraction, Bob Procter on youtube brought me to meet you. Bob & you have just woke me up that I can do many things more on the internet providing services to those who have a need, beside my website alone. Thanks to both of you. Now I have to visualize & feel I be alive forever because I want to catch up & learn much much more about this wonderful gadget called computer. I hope I be able to learn more from your experience. Once again, I’m so happy & grateful now that I have met Bob & you. I hope you will have many more great success to share & for me to learn from GREAT MASTERS like the 2 of you. Thank you very much. May everyone on this planet be always HEALTHY, WEALTHY & MOST OF ALL HAPPY.

Hi Brian. your life story is a very interesting one.

I had an epiphany a couple of years back and left a high ranking corporate position in search of creating passive income generating capabilities… or Equity (as what it is termed in my professional field).

I am a fan of Robert Kiyosaki's classic “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, as something i can relate to well, as i am from a very modest family and have never received any coaching that will one day lead me to becoming a rich dad. Problem is i left my cushy job to start a venture with someone who has let me down and I am back at square one after two years, in actual fact much worse off than when i first set off on my entrepreneurial journey.

Now I've read on your website about your association with Bob Proctor whose organisation I found intriguing, but having done some due diligence (which I neglected to do on my recently failed venture!) I've come across some detractors to Proctor's activities. There's also some bad press about a David Schirmer from Australia on “A Current Affair”, one of my favourite tv programs during my undergraduate days.

I'm now caught between taking the plunge into the unknown and trying my hand at a more tried and tested venture like F&B, as I certainly do not want to be kicking myself two years from now as I am kicking myself now over my mistake two ago!
