3 Golden Rules For Successful Information Marketing
Golden Rule No.1: Begin with Market Research to Select a Niche Market
The essence of keyword research is this:
- determine that there is at least 20,000 and above searches each month on Google for your niche market;
- ideally, the number of search results such be less than the number of searches. Although this is rare, its worthwhile finding such “gold mine” niches;
- determine whether the “competition” is beatable. Analyze existing niche products and adword advertisers in your niche.
Golden Rule No.2: Always, Always, Always Create VALUE!
The essence of this step is as follows:
- ensure that the VALUE in what you are offering is at least 10 times the price you ask for
- ensure that your information product SOLVES problems. Solving a need is better than satisfying a desire
- ensure that your price is competitive. e.g. your customer will get the best value for money through your service
Golden Rule No.3: Track! Test! Continuous Improvement!
Make sure you TRACK and TEST your pages. Google Analytics and Adwords provide a very powerful combination. The essential components of these tools I use are:
- Standard Google Analytics tracking to determine - No of unique visitors, Source of your traffic, content pages my visitors favor and bounce rates as well as overall traffic trends over time.
- Goal Tracking - Google Analytics allows you to define a goal path. Typically its as follows Landing Page –> Opt-in Form —> Sales Page –> Thank You Page. When you define a goal path you can see the percentage conversion of each of your critical pages. See previous post on Google Analytics Goal Tracking.
- Adwords Conversion Tracking - the Google Adwords account with “Conversion Tracking” activated allows you to see which specific keywords turns into sales so you can optimize your keywords. You can even define a value when a goal is achieved so that you can balance our your cost per click with your revenue per click. This is essential when using Adwords (unless you want to lose your pants and not even realize it!)
- Website Optimization - is a Google Analytics option that allows you to split test your sales pages and opt-in pages. This way, you can test your headlines, images, and other parts of your sales copy to ensure you are continuously improving your conversion rates. Even though you site may be profitable and making money, you may not realize that a simple change in the headline or color scheme could increase your profits by 50% or more!
